The Driving Standards Agency is partway through a programme to build up to date facilities for driver training and qualification covering motorcycles to HGV. The facility at Ettingshall will provide for motorcycle training and will act as a test centre for motorcycles and motor cars.
The works involved the construction of tarmac surfaced motorcycle test area together with associated car parking and the construction of a test centre building to the requirements of the Driving Standards Agency
The existing site was located in an area of existing mine workings with the presence of mine shafts know to exist within the footprint of the site. Subsequent works required the locating and grouting of existing mine shafts together with the grouting of existing mine workings all in accordance with the requirements of the Coal Authority.
As the existing site consisted of predominately made ground it was considered that some form of dynamic compaction and/or cement stabilisation would be required to achieve the specified requirements. Weldon carried out extensive investigation into the existing material to determine the possibility of carrying out a more economic engineered fill solution with introduction of a recycled capping. The site was remodelled to minimise the amount of surplus material for disposal off-site.
